SLD 10/62 - Further Talks With Telstra Corporate HR CEPU EBA In Telstra
FURTHER TALKS WITH TELSTRA CORPORATE HR CEPU EBA IN TELSTRA
Further talks with Telstra on a new EBA were held last Friday the 5 March 2010.
The talks were agreed to following the initiative of the CEPU, and a letter from the joint unions setting out a few matters for further discussion.
The talks were useful and covered several matters e.g
* salary matters
* some clarification on the dispute settling and arbitration clauses
* some clarification on the rights of employees on ECAs, AWAs, and ITEAs
* some discussion relating to the negotiated compromise on the structure of the agreement
* a possible joint review of some aspects of the EBA banding system
* workplace delegate/shop steward training
Telstra corporate HR representatives undertook to take the views and propositions put to them by the unions to higher management for consideration.
Further talks are arranged for the week commencing the 15th of March 2010.
TELSTRA OHS COMMITTEE ELECTIONS
Elections for the Telstra Occupational Health and Safety Committee are taking place at present.
The eight person Committee consists of equal numbers of employer and employee representatives. While there is no legal requirement that the employee representatives belong to a union, the CEPU strongly supports these positions being filled by union members. This is because they have access to the added resources and back-up that union membership provides, and because they have experience and training in OH&S issues.
Two CEPU members have nominated for the Committee – Lee Walkington (NSW) and Steve Young (Victoria). Two members of another union, the CPSU have also nominated – Trevor O’Mara (Qld) and Marg Shirley (Country Victoria).
The CEPU recommends members and all other employees support these candidates so that you can be more properly represented on OH&S issues in Telstra. Voting will conclude on the12 March 2010,so make sure you vote very soon.
OT & RECALL/START & END OF DAY
Overtime bans and recall bans continue to apply on a daily basis - further notices regarding these bans and stoppages for the upcoming days have been forwarded to Telstra. These bans are legal, protected action.
As a further reminder, the ban relating to unpaid overtime continues to apply to the unpaid "log on" prior to normal start time as well as work functions outside normal paid hours (see below).
Any problems with these bans should be notified to the branch office.
For any queries, please contact either John Ellery 0419 823 580 or Len Cooper 0438 389 302
START OF DAY
Ban on OT paid or unpaid continues to apply, Therefore field based members should not be logging on 1/2 hour prior to paid start time.

Other members in areas such as call centres, where Telstra try to force them into a ready situation prior to their start time should also apply this action. They also should be logging on at their actual start time.
